CAKE & CONVERSATION // Kenderdine Art Gallery U of S
On November 7, 2016 in my parents kitchen in Saskatoon, SK, Canada, I baked 8 cakes. The cakes turned out just as I had expected, though the news did not. On November 8th, I assembled and frosted them just as I had planned, even though I knew cake would not fix this or alleviate the shock of the election results felt by many even in Canada. On November 9th I served them at the Kenderdine Art Gallery (even if they were on the salty side #somanytears) with a hope that gathering together for cake and talking to each other might provide a glimmer of what we can continue to make that is good, what we need to put out into the world to keep on nourishing it. And if none of us felt like eating cake, or talking, we could at least quietly and collectively throw them against a wall. Turns out nothing is certain and most of us wanted to eat whole cakes to ourselves and wash it down with wine and non stop talk.
